Children’s RE Classes Fall Curriculum 2007

For the fall Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten to 2nd grade, and 3rd to 5th grade classes we will utilize UU Identity curricula in Children’s RE. The curricula are filled with fun, interactive activities and are written to appeal to many learning styles and to get children involved.

We Are Many, We Are One

For Pre-K Class - 3 & 4 year olds – will meet at Starbright 2 or 3 times per month. This yearlong preschool curriculum offers children the grounding of a religious community and tradition, along with the freedom to discover and express their uniqueness. The underlying theme throughout is anti-bias and multicultural education, which celebrates diversity and interdependency.

Treasure Hunting Take 2
For K-2 class - will meet at Starbright 2 or 3 times per month.

Treasure Hunting involves children in the excitement of the search for meaning in life at the concrete level of their understanding. Each week, through games, crafts, songs and stories, the children explore the meaning behind a Unitarian Universalist principle or value. The treasures discovered through the year include the importance of each person, the power of feelings, the joy of friendship, the excitement of the search for truth, Unitarian Universalist heritage, the interdependence of people, and the fragile harmony of nature.

Spirit of Adventure
For grades 3-5 - will meet at Starbright

This is an active Unitarian Universalist Identity curriculum for children using the themes of sports, medicine, food, science, building, exploring and the web of life as ways to discover the people and values of our Unitarian Universalist faith. Each session makes a direct connection to a Unitarian Universalist Principle and Source of our Living Tradition. Most of the sessions offer stories about a Unitarian Universalist who exemplifies or offers a deeper perspective on the ideas of the sessions.

What Do You Stand For
For Middle School grades 6-8 will meet at SASAC

During the next few months, we will help the kids explore who they are and develop positive traits such as caring, good citizenship, empathy, respect, peacefulness, and responsibility. This class will meet weekly with a few exceptions.

For 9-12 class

This class will meet twice a month and will participate in a variety of activities including social action projects, movies, active discussion, and other activities just for fun.

Starbright Preschool

Because of our expanding Children’s Religious Education Program, we are now in need of extra class space. We have an agreement with the Starbright Preschool, located across the parking lot from SASAC, to use their class space for our Pre-K and K-2 classes. Children begin the morning in the service, and when they are “sung out,” will go with their teachers to Starbright. Starbright has a fabulous playground where the children can play during coffee hour. Parents are always welcome to join the class to check it out and help their children feel more comfortable.
