2011 Stewardship Campaign
Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow
Wildflower Church is a community that is small compared to the wider worlds of our individual lives, our city, our nation, and our earthly home. And yet, from within this small community of Wildflower Church, we strongly affect not only the space all around us but time as well. Our voices and our actions ripple outward, and we influence those who cross our path. As adults, teachers, and parents we strive, in the words of our great Unitarian forefather William Ellery Channing, “not to stamp our
minds upon the young, but to stir up their own,” so they may grow up to be people of integrity, agency, and wonder. Perhaps most importantly, we charge ourselves to remember that our first and seventh principles are ineradicably intertwined: In order for us to truly see the inherent worth and dignity of every person, we must understand and respect the interdependent web of all existence, and vice versa.
So it is that Wildflower Church continues to deepen and to grow in its mission, to “joyfully nurture one another in our lifelong spiritual journeys,” and to “commit to transforming ourselves and the world around us through acts of compassion, love, and social justice.” So it is that we live out our covenant, “to extend the welcome, hospitality, and acceptance and Wildflower Church that we would wish to receive,” and “to keep the well being of the whole Wildflower Church community at the forefront of our work.”
We are a relatively young congregation; this February 4th will mark just the tenth anniversary of our first formal worship service. And yet in those 10 years, we have welcomed each other in, achieved so very much, and in the process, transformed each other’s lives.
And that is what will continue to happen, day after day, year after year. All it takes is love and commitment. All it takes is remembering that we are the stewards of our beloved community. All it takes is showing up for stewardship just as we did yesterday, just as we will do tomorrow. In honor of the work that has brought us this far, to celebrate the beloved community we are today, and to express our shared faith in our liberal religious future, we ask that you pledge as generously as you are able to this year’s stewardship campaign.
