Director of Religious Education
I have been an active member of our congregation since 2001, joining the Children’s Religious Education Committee, serving as a teacher in Children’s Religious Education and Chair of Fun & Fellowship and Childcare. In 2003, I became a co-chair and then chair of the Children's Religious Education Committee. I began working as the Director of Religious Education in June, 2005. I am a member of the Liberal Religious Educator’s Association and have attended five modules of the Renaissance Program for professional religious educators and attended two LREDA conferences. I am married to David Burnette and have three children-- Aaron, Jacob, and Nathan.
Like many people, when I first started teaching religious education, I was scared to lead a class. After a while I found it was fun. I love seeing and hearing all the different ideas the kids have and their take on lesson concepts. It is amazing to see their finished art projects and all the individual expression they incorporate. I find it an honor to be an important adult in their lives who cares about them. Someone for them to be excited to see on Sunday and get to know them as they tell me something important about their week.
It has been so exciting and rewarding to watch the program grow and thrive, to meet new families and watch them become part of our church family, to watch the kids grow and to see the church become an important part of these families' lives. I work part-time for Wildflower and can easily be reached by phone or email and am always happy to talk to you.
