Rites of Passage
Child Dedications
A Unitarian Universalist child dedication ceremony is a community recognition of and commitment to new life--most often infants and toddlers, newly adopted children, or young children whose families have recently joined the congregation. Generally held during regular church services, child dedications include vows of the parents and the larger family, a moment of naming in which the child is blessed with the presence of the chalice flame, a flower, and water, and finally a charge to the congregational community to be a loving, supporting presence for the child and the child's family.
Weddings
Rev. Galaher works with couples--both church members and non-church members, both heterosexual and same-sex couples--in creating wedding ceremonies that will best suit their needs and their spirits. She asks to meet with each couple at least three times in the months before the ceremony, so that she can get to know the couple and thus offer an authentic, caring presence for the couple in their ceremony.
Note: As a religious and personal statement of conscience, Rev. Galaher will no longer sign marriage licenses until same sex couples as well as heterosexual couples can legally marry. This simply means that, until that time, couples who are married by Rev. Galaher in religious ceremony will need to have a civic official sign the license.
Memorial Services
It is essential that those who are grieving, honoring and celebrating the life of a loved one feel that they are heard, cared for, and guided as they work through their grief as well as their desire for a service that will be true to their loved one's memory. Rev. Galaher works with families to create a memorial service that will ensure that this rite of passage will be appropriately personal, healing, and loving.
