Wildflower Justice Team

Committee Documents

Goal

The goal of the Wildflower Justice Team is to develop and implement social action programs that reflect Wildflower Church’s vision and missions and Unitarian Universalist values.

Wildflower Church members participate in a variety of Social Justice work. Community service projects provide involvement by members either by financial donations or by the energy of time and labor. Ongoing projects include Second Offering, Food Packets for Homeless, Hands on Housing, and Keep Austin Clean.

Advocacy work deals with the policy and actions taken by local, state, and federal governments or organizations. Members help with letter writing, legislative visits and community marches.

Educational opportunities include regular forum events that reflect outside speakers and organizations that promote values of compassion, justice, and sustainability. The issue of Global Warming is addressed through the Super Cooler program, recycling efforts and viewing of movies/documentaries on social action and justice topics.

The Annual CROP Hunger Walk

This year's CROP Walk will be held on March 4 and 5, 2012, at Walter E. Long Park, 6614 Blue Bluff Road. The walk raises money to provide food to people in Austin and elsewhere. Whatever you are able to raise, large or small, helps to end hunger one step at a time. For more information, contact

Wildflower Walks for the National Alliance on Mental Illness, October 8, 8:00 A.M.

Please mark your calendars to come join us as we walk in the National Alliance on Mental Illness' NAMIWalks event on Saturday, October 8, at 8:00 a.m. No one should ever be stigmatized by having a mental illness. Now is the time to sign up as Wildflower team members and start helping raise awareness that mental illnesses are real, physiologically-based illnesses just like diabetes, Alzheimer's and cancer are real illnesses. Together we will walk with members of First UU and Live Oak UU as the team UUUniques. Please look for our upcoming table for more information on how you may become involved, and you may also contact Danna Luther at for more information.
