Social Action Projects

Wildflower’s Adopt-a-Highway

Several times a year, Wildflower members and friends pick up litter along our adopted section of Manchaca Road, located just south of Ben White. The church has signed a two-year contract with the City of Austin as part of the KAB (Keep Austin Beautiful) program. For information, contact Todd Nicodemus at (512) 422-5787.

Hands on Housing

Twice a year, Wildflower Church participates in the Hands-on-Housing Program, repairing homes owned by people with limited incomes. This all-day, intergenerational event involves work and activities for all ages and skill levels. We need a volunteer to coordinate our church’s participation in the fall and spring.

Food Packets for the Homeless

The Wildflower Social Action Committee and high school and middle school youth prepare packets of food that are sold to church members and friends for distribution to homeless people standing on street corners.

Second Offering

A Second Offering is collected each Social Action Sunday (the third Sunday of the month) to donate to a local Austin charity that serves populations in need.

Donations to Food Banks

Wildflower donates canned goods and used printer cartridges to the Capital Area Food Bank. After the worship service on Social Action Sunday, Faye Maxwell collects and takes these items to the Food Bank. For more information, contact Faye at 448-1830 or . Larry Thompson is also collecting old eyeglasses to give to the south Austin Lion’s Club.

Austin Interfaith

Wildflower has joined a coalition of churches and other institutions in Austin that advocate for social justice in policy issues at the city, county, and state level.  We have an enthusiastic team within Wildflower which would welcome more members.  Recently we have been working on health care and living wage issues.  For more information, check www.austininterfaith.org.
